When Garrett first told me about The Twitter Gong Show, I thought to myself, “Huh?” and “This sounds like a complete mess.” I know being his friend and fellow Boom-mate, I should have been more supportive but I had my doubts. Other good comics tried producing gong shows and failed, how was adding tweets gonna change anything?

I didn’t know Mark DeBonis (creator of the show) very well and Garrett is never serious and prides himself on knowing useless information about gross sh*t, which is not exactly conducive to producing amazing shows.

When I finally did make it out to the Rivoli I was pleasantly surprised and embarrassed I had such reservations towards my good friend.

Before anyone hit the stage, an intro video played. It was clearly shot on an iPhone, had cheesy special effects, bad acting, crappy audio and I loved it.

Then Garrett and Mark came out to start the show, it was immediately apparent they had worked incredibly hard to put it together. Their comedic sensibilities were very much in sync, playing as each others sidekick. The show has a controlled chaos anchored by a panel of really funny judges - Barry Taylor and Matt O’Brien.

Unlike traditional Sketch Dot shows; The Twitter Gong Show has performers with unusual talents. I’ve seen a man-horse who does back flips, a ninja who plays with devil sticks, a guy who mimes blow jobs, a striping hula hooper and a guy named Jesse.

If the acts are bad (and there has been some horrible acts) - The panel and tweeters slaughter them in 143 characters or less.

When the acts aren’t on stage Garrett and Mark have an ongoing story arch that ties into their web series - yes a web series. It incorporates the panel, behind the scenes of TGS and two Vegas Lounge singers who steal the show. Lucky Louis, a washed-up loser played by Tim Dorsch and Butterscotch Phil, an eager lounge act who wears an eagle pendent and leather jacket, played by Monty Scott.

If you want to see a really great show for only $5, The Twitter Gong Show is worth every outdated penny.

What’s up bitches? So I had like the best groupie night of all time. Jealous? Of course you are. My friends’ sick ass Metal/hardcore band from Welland, ‘American Hell’ was opening for one of my favourite bands of all time, Death By Stereo at The Hard Luck in T.O.

I was at DBS’ merch table and noticed a snare skin signed by drummer, Mike Cambra. The price for this item caught my horny eye, because it was one open mouthed kiss given to Mike. Being drunk as all hell (and hot for band guys), I asked the Merch guy if this was open to anyone.

He laughed his ass off and said that they were trying to get a gal to do it, but this is a whole lot funnier. So I snatched it off the table and walked right up on stage while he was doing sound check. He laughed so hard when he saw it in my hand, and that creepy ‘I’m gonna violate you’ look I tend to give a victim.

I slowly creeped up to him, worried that I would be greeted with either a tongue or a fist. But I had gone this far, and I couldn’t turn back now. I planted a decent closed-lip kiss on him, but when I opened my mouth (the price said open-mouth damnit), he turned away and got some tongue on cheek.

Both bands were out-of-hand amazing. If kissing Mike got me Rock-hard, hearing both Bands back to back got me Diamond-hard.

After the show, I got the rest of DBS to sign it, and got to join both bands out to the Bovine Sex Club for a ridiculous amount of whiskey and violent gangster rap.

The previous night, they had a show in London (the shitty one) and a gal asked my buddy Mike Morrone (Drummer of American Hell) to sign her tits. He was so excited because it was his first breast signing, so I wanted to keep his streak going and got him to sign my sweet, pretty, perky tits.

(Either my belly button is off center or I have a very misleading treasure trail.)

Then to cap off this enchanting/hot-and-horny evening, I stopped at McDonalds and ordered a Big Mac meal (Upsized and Extra Mac Sauce) with a junior chicken just for the fuck of it. Picked me up a blue gatorade on my walk home thinking this was the best cure for a definite hang over, but the second I got in the door I threw up the brightest blue McDonalds concoction. It was the weirdest looking radioactive sludge I’ve ever seen.

We’re super excited that Cheap Smokes is doing The Boom Show on July 5th.

So excited in fact, that our own Bryn Pottie sat down to talk to them about the pressures of being female comics.

So how about all this lady comedy happening lately?

Tell me about it! We think the past few years have been booming (hehe) to be a female comedian. We think there is less of a distinction between male and female comedy, and more about just funny PEOPLE. Now everyone can do jokes about their period!

Where do you guys get the ideas for the funny skits? Does it come from being ladies?

Not at all. It comes from the fact that we are just two of the most rediculous people we know, and tend to get ourselves into trouble…but the trouble always turns into comedy! Also, Laura farts more than anyone i’ve ever met.

Which is funnier: Being sexy or being not sexy? It has to be one or the other, right?

Well for us its definitely being sexy…on opposite day! Every day we find more and more ways to make ourselves look disgusting onstage. Whether we are playing a goblin, cracking eggs on our heads, or farting in someone’s face…its hard to squeeze “being sexy” in there.

A lot of people say things like “women aren’t good at comedy” or ”man comics are funnier than woman comics” or “I hate women”. How do you respond when people say that to you?

To that we would probably say…”You’re FACE isn’t good at comedy!”

“Bridesmaids” was a watershed moment for women in comedy and blah blah blah fucking blah. Respond?

People have talked a lot about that movie. We think the best thing that came out of that movie is that the men were in the supporting roles this time and the women got all the funny lines, and it was just as funny. And also showed a woman pooing in the street…now thats funny!

How do you balance a career in comedy with being a mom?

Just like you would balance on a tight rope going over Niagara falls…very carefully
